Press Release for "Living The Green Dream"

"Living The Green Dream"

A Theatrical Production written & performed by a Hartford Homeschooling Family February 2008
Imani & John Zito embarked on a cross country tour this past summer with their six children ages 4 - 16 in tow to see for themselves how people all over the United States are reacting to the concept of climate change. Their oldest children had participated in the 2007 Cool-It Challenge which encouraged kids to come up with solutions for our changing climate.

At home the family implemented sustainable practices such as using biodiesel in their Ford Excursion, eating only organic food, shopping at farmers markets, not using any plastic water bottles and using only reusable bags at home for over a year. During their trip they captured video footage for their presentation while challenging themselves to maintain their "green" priorities. They learned that with just a little effort, especially in the area of consumerism, families can have a profound impact on the environment.

The idea behind the "Living the Green Dream" production is for kids to share ideas about "living green" with other kids. They believe that since kids are a major influencer of parent purchases, it would be effective to introduce basic concepts of sustainability directly to them.

One of the things our planet needs now is a future generation that understands the importance of living lightly and being resourceful. The focus of their presentation is threefold: carbon footprint, carbon consumerism and conservation.

The performance is geared toward 6-8th graders and is being booked in schools across Connecticut this Spring. If you are interested in bringing the performance to your school or other program involving children in that age range, please contact imani@thegreenvibration.com.
