Cool-It Competition
This Saturday we had our Cool It Competition. I felt really confident in the panel room this year! We had 15 minutes to present what we have done the past year and what we are doing and then the judges had 5 min to ask us questions. I think we all did good overall. We all answered at least two questions (unlike last year when Cassie answered all of the questions).
The only one thing I think that we could've done better is documenting everything we completed so far. Many of the other teams were able to document what they did by the number of clean energy sign-ups. light bulbs habded out and so on. I think not being in a school setting where we had access to a set population made this more difficult for us.
We did not win first place ,which was kind of dissapointing, but we did win $1000 dollars for Innovation. Overall I think this was a good experience for all of us and we are getting our show on the road with three performances booked in the next few weeks!

This week we've been preparing for our cool it competition this saturday. We have some one recording our theatrical presentation which were going to show in the pannel room.
We've been waiting and preparing for this saturay for a whole year. Every time i think about it i feel little buterflies go through my stomache but at the same time i feel like we really prepared, and that we have accomplished alot in the year.
We're also going to be putting our video up on youtube. The video is basically divided up into three things: carbon footprint, conscious consumerism, and conserv ation.
We originally had a long power point but had to water it down because not everyone could understand it. So we made it more interesting by adding acting, and props. The kids allready seemed to enjoy it more!
So thats it for this week! I will let you know how the cool it competition goes.

CT Cool- It Challenge
My sibblings and I have our Cool It Competition coming up in a couple of weeks! The Cool It competition is the orginial motivation behing Living the Green Dream. Teaching other kids about climate change and acivism was our solution action plan. Different kids from schools across CT are competing for the $10,000 prize.
This is both exciting and nerve racking at the same time. Last year we participated were not the top winners. This year we are determined to have a strong presence. In the panel room we're going to talk about what we accomplished this past year, who we collaborated with and future plans for our project. We will incorporate a couple of scenes from our theatrical script to demonstrate.
I feel like we are much more prepared than last year. We are more confident in our abilities to communicate with others on issues that we feel are important. I think it is a good sign that other kids are thinking like us and wanting to make a difference. Wish us luck!

Macy's Earth Day
These past couple of weeks I feel like people are really starting to take notice about how concerned we are for the environment. We've had various people asking us to perform our theatrical play at different places. Last weekend we did it at Macy's Earth Day. I was glad to know that main stream people are starting to worry about the environment as we do.
They had an organic chef there and other talks about being more sustainable. We had three time slots. During the break we walked around Macy's to see what they were up to. They had some Organic cotton shirts that had green sayings on them, and they also were donating 25% of all profits to a good cause.
Some of the kids that were shopping seemed interested in what were doing, and they employees at Macy's loved it and all throughout the day they made announcements about us performing. At the end of the show they gave us free, eco friendly, re-usable bags. I think it's great that stores are starting to become more aware and that there starting to make small steps.

Every Day is Earth Day!
Hey Everyone!
This week i am going to talk about what we did over the weekend. On Saturday April 19th we did our presentation for the Community Day at The University Of Hartford that went pretty well. First i had a little show with my dance school which lasted about 3o minutes! Next we did our presentation on Global warming, and all my friends that danced with me earlier came over and watched. I was a bit nervous at first but soon got into the groove. All of my friends loved it and thought they got a lot of information out of it.
After we did our presentation i had one more dance to do. After everything was done we got to soak up the warm sunny day! They had all kinds of stuff there. After walking around for quite a bit we went to this Jumping trampoline group. They were amazing. They did all kinds of flips on the trampoline they even did flips with a snowboard/skiis! After that we packed up and went home.
On Sunday April 20th we were invited to do the Living the Green Dream performance at the MDC's Earth day. We had our own little booth and we gave out fliers about our co-op that we're starting up, upcoming solar home tours and best of all... DUN DUN DUN our Youth Activism Summer Camp summer! People seemed interested in that the most! It's going to be a blast. There are going to be outstanding teachers there (such as my mom & others) teaching kids on Climate Change and what we can do to slow it down. Theres also going to be field trips such as: kayaking, trash museum, trips to local farms and much more!
Anyways back to the subject.... So we performed our skit/presentation for all the parents and kids (they loved it). They seemed like a very "conscious" crowd. So that helped alot.
THAT'S ALL FOR THIS WEEK!

Protest
My family and I are a group of envionmental activists, so were always staying up to date about what's going on in the world, and were constantly going to protests! Our most recent protest was on April 1st about fossil fuels with a nationwide campaign sponsored by the Energy Action Coalition called "April Fools".
We decided last minute to organize our own protest here in Connecticut at our state capitol. We didn't have as much of turn out as we hoped for but overall it was good. We talked to a state leislator, drummed, everyone read something aloud, and 2 guys played guitar while singing inspirational stuff. I am looking forward for our next protest my mom stumbles across. It feels good to be speaking out about the change needed in our world.
